We are seeking an Engineer 1/Engineer 2 Substation & Transmission Engineering to join the staff at our Mays Landing, NJ location.
PHI is posting a position that will be filled at the Engineer 1 or Engineer 2 level. Those candidates who meet the minimum requirements for the Engineer 1 or the Engineer 2 positions will be interviewed. The most qualified candidate, from either level, Engineer 1 or Engineer 2, based on the Structured Interview, will be hired.
This position will be responsible for providing support for the PHI Substation Engineering Department. Provide engineering and technical direction in the judgment. This position performs routine work that conforms to all project/task requirements that require basic understanding and application of engineering theories, standards, concepts, techniques as well as knowledge of engineering/industry standards associated with the design, procurement and construction of electric utility substations.
Requirements:
ENGINEER 1
Required:
§ Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering
§ Knowledge and understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals, including principles, theories, standards, concepts, and techniques.
§ Experience performing assignments demonstrating typical engineering skills and competencies.
§ Experience demonstrating skill collecting and analyzing data.
§ Experience demonstrating skill using PC-based spreadsheet, word processing and e-mail software.
§ Ability and willingness to travel to various company locations and work sites.
§ Ability and willingness to work extended hours (including holidays and weekends) with little or no notice, on-call and during storms and system emergencies.
§ Ability and willingness to adhere to safety regulations and policies and to wear and use safety equipment as required by Federal, State, Local and PHI regulations (for example, steel toed shoes, rubber gloves and sleeves, hard hat, fire retardant clothing).
§ Ability and willingness to work in a variety of work environments which may include outdoors in all weather conditions, on or around energized electrical equipment, in confined spaces, climbing, underground and in noisy and dirty environments with proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
§ Must possess a valid driver’s license.
§ Must successfully pass a Criminal History Records Check.
§ This position is a NERC Regulated position. As such, a background check will be conducted on the incumbent every seven years. Additionally, the incumbent will be required to complete annual NERC compliance training.
§ Must successfully pass a medical screening to include a drug test.
Preferred:
§ Successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination.
§ Experience demonstrating skill using PC-based analytical software and/or presentation software.
§ Experience demonstrating skill using design software (for example, CAD software, Visio).
§ Experience demonstrating skill performing substation engineering activities.
ENGINEER 2
Required:
§ Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.
§ 2 years of progressive, relevant engineer experience as described below (including experience as an Engineer 1) OR the equivalent combination of education, experience and/or training demonstrating the following skills:- understanding and applying engineering theories, standards, concepts, resources and techniques related to substations;- working on routine projects independently and/or working with teams on larger projects;- collecting and analyzing non-routine data;- working closely with other groups within and/or outside the company;- identifying and analyzing job/project-related issues and problems;- keeping abreast of new equipment, methods and developments in engineering.
§ Experience demonstrating effective written and oral communication skills.
§ Experience demonstrating skill using PC-based word processing, spreadsheet and e-mail software to perform work functions.
§ Ability and willingness to travel to various company locations and work sites.
§ Ability and willingness to work extended hours (including holidays and weekends) with little or no notice, on-call and during storms and system emergencies.

§ Experience demonstrating skill performing basic substation design and engineering activities.
§ Experience demonstrating skill utilizing SAP and/or WMIS.
