Responsibilities
The Patient Care Technician (PCT) performs patient related care tasks, assists patients with activities of daily living and provides direct patient care under supervision of the Nurse. These duties may include but are not limited to obtaining and recording vital signs, phlebotomy, peripheral and arterial line access, blood glucose monitoring, obtaining specimens, foley insertion, straight cathing, discontinuing peripheral intravenous catheters, discontinuation of foley catheters and monitoring and recording daily intake and output. (PCT) Monitors and performs actions to decrease patient length of stay including but not limited to: computerized bed tracking system, performing timely designated discharge duties and communicating discharge information to appropriate staff. Assists physician/nurse with diagnostic test, clinical procedures and other tests as requested. Communicates patient needs and observed/reported changes in patient condition to supervising Nurse or Physician. Documents all interactions in patient's medical record. The PCT may assist nursing in the retrieval and delivering of medications per the unit standard. Other duties may include inventory, stocking, clerical, computer input, dietary and light housekeeping. May function as a patient sitter.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
AZ State CNA License
American Heart Association BLS certification required
HS Diploma/GED
Preferred Qualifications:
Six months CNA acute care experience
The completion of a Patient Care Technician program preferred
