Eleven Jobs for You to Boom with the Boomers in 2011

Posted by

As baby boomers retire, there will be a need for careers centering around their need for services, especially services that they will be increasingly unable to perform. You can boom with the boomers if you put some thought into what they will need.

Some of the jobs listed are not high paying, some are very high paying. This recognizes that we're a diverse people in our abilities, wants and circumstances. Yet one caveat I always add to this fact is that the start of a career may be low paying, but if people are eager enough to work to the top, money can be made anywhere in a free country.

An example, I had a friend who went to work right after high school. He started out at the french fry station at age 17 and by his 30's he was an area manager of 7 restaurants. The owners of many a businesses started out as fry cooks or shelf stockers.

So, here are eleven hot tips on growing jobs of the future in 2011. The statistics come from the Department of Labor.

1) Home health aid: Short-term on-the-job training is needed. The pay is very low.

2) Personal home care aides: Short-term on-the-job training is needed and the pay is very low.

3) Medical assistant: Moderate on-the-job training with a low pay rate.

Note: These areas are booming as older people need help because of poor health or the fact that they can't travel or move around as they once did.

4) Accountants and auditors: A minimum of a Bachelors degree to start out, with a CPA certificate as a great goal. The pay is very high.

Note: Elderly people as they retire will need financially trained people to not just help them liquidate their businesses, but to manage retirements. Auditors will be needed to search out those who cheat the system by hiding assets.

5) Construction laborers: Modest on-the-job training. The pay is low.

6) Carpenters: Long-term on the job training. The pay is very high

7) Landscaping and grounds keeping: Short-term on the job training. The pay is low.

8) Maintenance and repair workers: Modest on-the-job training and the pay is high.

Note: Obviously the need for these jobs is that the elderly at a point can't, for example, go on the roof and do roofing themselves. Maintenance and repair workers are needed not just for the reason listed above, but for the elderly who sell their homes and move into apartments that are more convenient for them. Obviously too, someone has to build those apartments.

9) Security guard: Short-term on-the-job training with low pay.

Note: As people age, they are less able to defend themselves. Also, spouses die leaving a husband or wife alone and feeling less secure.

10) Truck drivers, heavy and tractor trailer: Short-term on-the-job training. The pay is high.

Note: Obviously as truckers retire, positions are opening up. Add to this that elderly people still need services that are shipped by truck.

11) Child care workers: Short-term on-the-job training. The pay is very low.

Note: Children are always being born.

Because of our different abilities, wants and circumstances, I have listed a variety of jobs. Not all of us have the ability to be accountants, I don't,
But we all have the ability to grow. How many people who own million dollar cleaning businesses started with just a broom? I know a man who basically started with a shovel and a pickup and now has a successful construction company. So, if you can find a niche, you might just make it rich.
