  • Associate Director, Marketing and Communications - Health and Wellness

    Wayne State University is searching for an experiencedAssociate Director, Marketing and Communications - Health and Wellnessat its Detroit campus location.

    Essential functions (job duties):

    Provide marketing and communication leadership to the university's Health and Wellness division, including serving on the university's health and wellness leadership council. Manage and control day-to-day office activities to assist in creating a collaborative working environment with WSU administrators, faculty, staff, students and volunteers.

    Lead public relations efforts, increasing the visibility of the university's health and wellness mission to internal and external audiences.

    Oversee and coordinate all marketing and communication budget activities, including planning, directing, and overseeing the marketing and communication budget preparation process, long and short-term planning, cost projections, and budget estimates.

    Supervise marketing staff in health and wellness units. Hire, discipline, evaluate and provide training for assigned personnel. Determine staffing levels, make work assignments and oversee work flow to improve operational effeciencies.

    Review and edit existing promotional materials for marketing effectiveness, cross-selling implications and adherence to brand guidelines. Make changes to increase impact.

    Create marketing and communications content in various media for the university's health and wellness division. Responsible for content creation and content organization in all web content, social media, brochures, event invitations, e-newsletters, magazines, postcards, HTML targeted emails, speeches, letters and other content for dissemination to both internal and external audiences.

    Collaborate with the Office of Marketing and Communications to best position and promote the university's health and wellness online presence, including messaging, design and maintenance of the website and social media presence.

    Coordinate communications projects with vendors and contractors for the development and production of promotional materials, web site production and other collateral.

    Perform other related duties as assigned.

    Unique duties

    Qualifications

    Education Bachelor's degree

    Bachelor's degree in communications or marketing; Master's degree in Marketing or Communications preferred.

    Experience Specialist (minimum 5 years of job-related experience)

    5-8 years experience in marketing and communications role with marketing management and strategic planning experience and a proven track record in developing and administering an integrated content strategy plan. Preference given to prior higher eduation marketing experience.

    MANAGEMENT SKILLS: Ability to set and implement a self-directed agenda. Consensus building skills. Excellent ability to prioritize work assignments to meet deadlines. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with all levels of management in Client organizations throughout the University.

    ORGANIZATIONAL LEADERSHIP; Ability to plan and set strategic direction for marketing and communication efforts and the ability to work and lead a variety of people and situations. Need to be able to articulate the mission of Wayne State University and the College of Nursing to many constituencies.

    PLANNING/ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS: Ability to prioritize and plan work activities and develop strategies to achieve organizational goals, develop realistic action plans

    PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS: Ability to identify and resolve problems, develop alternative approaches and meet challenges with resourcefulness.

    Customer Service Skills - responds to customer needs and practices follow-up to ensure customer needs are met.

    Communications Skills - Ability to interact and articulate sensitively with students, faculty, staff, and administrators in a multicultural and diverse community. Excellent written and oral communication skills.

    Technical Skills - Strong copywriting, editing and proofreading skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously, often under tight deadlines. Must be a self-starter, highly organized, and possess top level business management, interpersonal, presentation and facilitation skills.

    Computer Skills - Proficient in Microsoft Office and Windows-based computer applications. Experience in social media channels as well as a content management system.
