Consulting Structural Engineer I

The Consulting Engineer is responsible for providing engineering guidance, calculations, analysis, studies and recommendations for a specialized segment of engineering within schedule and budget of an assigned project. Additional responsibilities may be assigned according to the needs of the company, project, or contract.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Prepares, reviews and approves drawings as required.

• Leads various size groups of engineers, designers and/or specialists.

• Uses data supplied by others to prepare a basic outline of work to be completed and establishes a schedule compatible with project goals and budgets.

• Develops and documents all calculations for assignments.

• Prepares and documents economic analyses and other system studies.

• Provides progress reports and alerts others about delays and specialized conditions.

• Prepares and presents expert testimony before regulatory bodies and courts.

• Prepares and makes presentations to client and company management.

• Contributes to technical literature in area of specialty.

• Assists with the preparation of project scope within a specific discipline.

• Works toward alignment of customer and company objectives.

• Assists with interpreting codes and permitting as it relates to a specific discipline.

• Fully understands the use of vendor documents and can review documents for accuracy.

• Ensures quality, quantity, and completeness of the assigned engineering tasks.

• In depth knowledge of the process of preparing and checking calculations, as well as, approval, revision, retention, and storage of project calculations.

• In-depth knowledge of drawing production and checking, as well as, approval, revision, retention, and storage of engineering drawings.

Minimum Requirements:

• US Citizen

• Bachelor of Science degree (or equivalent education) in an appropriate engineering discipline or the sciences from a four year accredited college or university.

• 8+ years of professional experience within a discipline or specialty.

• Professional Engineering License required.

• Intermediate level of knowledge within a specific discipline and understanding of the other disciplines.

• In-depth knowledge of industry codes and standards, including AISC 360, ASCE 7, IBC, and ACI 318

• In-depth knowledge and expertise in ~~~ modeling, analysis, design, and post processing

• In-depth knowledge and expertise in MathCad, Excel, and Word

• Good oral and written communication skills; working knowledge of word-processing and integrated software applications; organizational skills and ability to perform detail-oriented work are required.

• Position may require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance.

• Position may require travel.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master of Science degree or Doctorate in structural engineering

• Government or nuclear experience, i.e., DOD, DOE, NR

• In-depth knowledge of AISC Seismic Design Provisions, i.e., AISC 341

• Basic knowledge of nuclear facility design codes including ACI 349, AISC N690, ASCE 43, and DOE-STD-1020

• Working knowledge of seismic response spectrum analysis

• Basic knowledge of ANSYS analysis software

Compensation & Benefits

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $63 - $90 hourly (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
