General Purpose:

The Humanities Librarian is responsible for leading and implementing programs and services that support the entire lifecycle of research and learning for faculty and students in the departments of Modern Languages and Cultures and Religion and Classics. With liaison responsibilities for modern and classical languages, literary and cultural studies, and religious studies, the incumbent will contribute to projects and initiatives that advance the River Campus Libraries' (RCL) research, learning, and collections strategies. Additional subject assignments may follow as needed within the Learning Initiatives department.

The incumbent is responsible for conducting activities relevant to RCL's strategic goals, including but not exclusive of: identifying, understanding, and meeting the research and learning needs of assigned departments and communities; planning and delivering (typically) one-shot instructional sessions focused on information, data, and/or digital literacy; holding individual and small group research consultations with students and faculty; responding to chat and e-mail reference questions from the UR community; collaborating with a team of liaison librarians on collection development efforts; engaging and communicating with library stakeholders about library services and activities; and collaborating toward academic engagement events and activities such as workshops, pop-up presentations, and collection highlights. As a contributing member of the liaison librarian group, the incumbent will attend meetings and contribute to projects that advance RCL's research, learning, and collections goals.

Responsibilites:

Plan and develop materials to enrich and support research and learning

• Liaise with instructors and librarian colleagues to create course specific learning and research support materials

• Develop and maintain multimodal information resources and asynchronous learning materials (e.g., LibGuides, infographics, audio and video projects, and interactive tutorials) to support a hybrid learning environment

• Collaborate with Scholarly Communications team, OER Working Group, and other campus partners to create materials that guide and inform scholarly communication practices, open publishing opportunities, and open knowledge creation by researchers in assigned disciplines

Design and deliver dynamic instructional sessions and targeted programs and events to promote and enhance learning at all levels

• Work with instructors in designated disciplines to deliver high-impact information literacy instruction

• Creatively incorporate data and digital literacy into class sessions, programs, and events

• Collaborate with colleagues and campus partners to design and lead workshops and programs that support the research and learning needs of undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty, postgraduate researchers, and the community-at-large in alignment with RCL's strategic plan. Possible topics include open educational resources, open pedagogy, digital scholarship tools and methodologies, and data management

• Create an inclusive and welcoming environment for all class sessions, programs, and events, recognizing the unique needs of learners (e.g., Universal Design for Learning) and encouraging critical thinking and understanding of research practices, materials, and applications

Leverage research expertise to support scholarship through consultations with students and faculty

• Offer one-on-one and small group support to undergraduate students, graduate students, and faculty throughout the entire research lifecycle including resource discovery, citation practices, data management and analysis, open access, and scholarly impact

• Participate in RCL's virtual on-call schedule to assist users with information search, discovery, and use

• Assist researchers by guiding access to quality information through enterprise-wide systems (e.g., Primo/DiscoverUR), subscription-based resources, and robust physical and digital collections

Cultivate high quality collections to meet current information needs and anticipate future growth

• Engage with stakeholders (e.g., undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty), and participate in collection assessment activities, to responsibly allocate funds and respond to evolving patron needs

• Support and promote use of open educational resources and practices to improve teaching and learning

• Work with library liaison colleagues and Scholarly Resources & Curation team to curate high quality digital, print, primary source, and data collections

• Collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders to diversify RCL's holdings to include voices from and about historically marginalized communities and seek materials that contain a broad range of ideas, perspectives, and experiences

Establish and maintain relationships and strong communication channels with designated departments

• Communicate and translate key information about the library and its services with assigned departments and stakeholders

• Engage in targeted outreach, which could include attending departmental events, holding departmental office hours, and regularly meeting with faculty and students to identify information needs

• Conduct orientation sessions and tours for students and faculty to highlight services, spaces, and research materials

Miscellaneous Duties

• Participate in RCL-wide initiatives that advance the library's mission toward research and learning, collections, and community engagement

• Maintain professional collaborations with UR Libraries colleagues and other campus constituencies

• Adopt a growth-mindset and contribute to the profession through active participation in conferences, associations, research, and writing

• Demonstrate a continued commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racist practices in all aspects of work

• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Education:

• Post-graduate degree in library and information science from an A.L.A.-accredited institution required

• Or other advanced degree required

• Degree or coursework in one or more fields related to this position preferred

• Reading proficiency in a second language, relevant to assigned programs preferred

Experience

• 2 years' experience required

• Experience or familiarity with research and instruction in an academic library setting required

• Experience developing and cultivating relationships and partnerships required

• Experience collaborating across disciplines/fields preferred

• Experience delivering high-impact initiatives and programs preferred

• Facilitation, training, or teaching experience preferred

Knowledge

• Cultural competency, recognizing users as unique individuals with personalized experiences required

• Ability to remain current in best practices related to student success in higher education required

• Knowledge of scholarly publishing and the library's role within this landscape preferred

• Familiarity with ACRL's information literacy framework preferred

• Working knowledge of digital tools and methodologies that enhance the researcher/learner experience preferred

Skills

• Communication and relationship-building skills, including the ability to negotiate and speak thoughtfully to specific needs/concerns required

• Demonstrated commitment to teamwork/collaboration and ability to work effectively with a diverse campus community required

Pay Range

Pay Range: $ 54,808 - $ 76,752 Annually

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
